Dental Implants – Cosmetic Dentistry for Missing Teeth

Cosmetic Dentistry Quincy, MA

If you have multiple missing teeth, cosmetic dentistry can help you fill the gaps. There are a few dental implant options you can choose from if you want to replace multiple missing teeth. Dental implants are titanium screws or rods inserted into your jawbone, and they are used to anchor dental restorations, just as your natural teeth have roots that anchor them to your jawbone.

Dental implants are the preferred prosthetic to replace multiple missing teeth that they are the only replacement option that can replace tooth roots. This is very important because tooth roots have two important purposes: anchor down the tooth's crown and stimulate your jaw whenever a tooth is used.

If you choose dental implants to replace your missing teeth, your jaw will continue to get the stimulation it needs to stay healthy. This will preserve the bone tissue and keep your face from sagging over time.

This article will outline different ways to replace multiple missing teeth with dental implants.

Implant-bridges

Implants can be combined with dental bridges to create a more permanent solution if you are missing multiple teeth. This method is often recommended in cosmetic dentistry when you have several missing teeth together, one after the other.

Your dentist will install two implants to get implant bridges, one on each side of the gap created by the missing teeth. Once the implants are fully fused, crowns are attached to their external–facing end, about four to six months after the screws are inserted. These crowns will serve as abutments for the bridge. Your dentist will make an impression of your teeth and design a custom prosthetic for you. When making the prosthetic, your dentist will design the prosthetic's color, size, and shape to match your natural teeth so that the result will blend well with your natural teeth.

Implant-supported dentures

Implant-supported dentures may be recommended if you have lost most of your natural teeth. These combine the stability of implants with the affordability of dentures. Your dentist will insert four to six implants on one side of your jaw, and then dentures are attached to the implants once they have fully integrated into your jaw.

Both removable implant-supported dentures are much like traditional dentures (but with more stability than traditional dentures). There are permanent options that are fixed in place once they are put in. Your dentist will recommend either a removable or fixed option depending on your situation.

Implant crowns

Your dentist is not likely to use multiple single implants to replace multiple teeth because they are too expensive, but some situations call for multiple single implants. For example, if you have two missing teeth, you would be advised to get each tooth replaced with a single implant.

Those are the options you have for replacing missing teeth with cosmetic dentistry.
